House. 1811 (on datestone) with later wings. Now in dual ownership. For William
Lockwood. Pale brown brick in Flemish bond. Pantile roof.- Garden front: 2-storeys
with pediment, 3 bays with central break-forward containing 2 windows and single bay
wings. Gothic freestyle. Entrances to side bays; to No 47 a 3-panelled door with
pointed arches surmounted by 2 centred fanlights with intersecting tracery; No 49
has a glazed door under a smilar fanlight. Sash windows with intersecting tracery
in the heads to ground floor. Three-course 1st floor band. Side wings above doors
have small diamond-shaped windows with concave sides and glazing bars. Central bay:
sashes as ground floor. The side wings curve upwards with stone coping towards the
central cogged pediment which is flanked by stone obelisks and was until recently
surmounted by a ball finial. Interior: elegant staircase. No 47 with carved tread
ends, simple balusters and ramped up handrail. Similar one to No 49. No 47 retains
some original features including a plaster cornice to the ground floor and doors in
architraves.
The later extensions to each side are not of special interest.
