Gill House


House. 1690. (Owner's date, stylistically appropriate.) Pale red-brown brick.
Concrete tile roof, hipped to right, with raised verge, brick kneeler and chimney to
left. Cross wing has brick kneelers and ridge stack. Catslide roof to rear. Two
storeys. Five 1st floor windows. L-plan with rear outshot. Front entrance of
1983. C19 sashes. Evidence of alteration of position of openings. Four-course
stepped 1st floor band. Above C19 sashes under gauged brick flat arches. Stepped
and cogged eaves. Rear: cross wing of 2 bays with 16-pane sashes. Window in gable.
Inteiror: staircase with simple turned balusters and ramped-up handrail. Chamfered
beams with tongued stops. Large inglenook under bressummer. Roof partly exposed:
2 levels of butt purlins with chamfered curved collar.
