Harbour walls and weir. 1768. Coursed ashlar stone. 3-tier weir flanked
by L-shaped walls. Wall to left turns another right-angle and continues for
approximately 30 metres. Remains of wood sluice gates on right side of
weir. 2 iron rings in walls. In 1768 £5,000 was raised to include 4 miles
of Bedale beck in a scheme designed to make the River Swale navigable from
Moreton to Boroughbridge. (Lewis, "Tales of old Bedale", Country Life,
