Milepost. Early C19. Maker: Grove Foundry, Gomersall. Cast iron, fixed on
sandstone pillar. Angled sides and sloping top-plate beneath
round-headed panel. Raised lettering reads:

on upper panel: BARNSLEY & PONTEFACT ROAD / BRIERLEY
on left side : BARNSLEY / 6 / MILES
on right side : PONTEFRACT / 8 / MILES

Makers name-plaque on sloping top-plate. Sited on a part of the
Barnsley to Pontefract turnpike opened in 1835.
