Statue and enclosure. 1866 by Baron Marochetti. Larger than life bronze
statue of Joseph Locke, on red granite square base inscribed:'Joseph Locke'.
Surrounded by a square enclosure with Portland stone balustrade with turned
balusters and square, panelled corner piers with ornamental capitals.
Joseph Locke, 1805-60, was brought-up in Barnsley and was apprenticed to
George Stephenson. He was engineer of the Grand Junction Railway.
