Cart-shed and granary. Late C18, enlarged late C19. For the Wentworth Castle
estate. Coursed, squared sandstone, Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 6 bays.
Large quoins. Central 4-bay arcade with segmental arches having ashlar piers
and voussoirs, later casement to bay 1, double-chamfered surround to casement
in bay 6. 1st floor: casements in ashlar surrounds with projecting sills and
deep lintels. Cavetto-moulded gable copings. Right return: ashlar surround to
doorway on left of window. Square lst-floor window with eared and shouldered
architrave; doorway above on left linked by walkway to adjacent barn (q.v.);
cavetto-moulded eaves band; ashlar-dressed gable slit vent. The eared and
shouldered architrave on right return is similar to 2nd-floor windows of
Wentworth Castle's east front and may have been re-used after the remodelling
of its southern return bay in 1759-64. Before heightening and extension formed
a pair with adjacent cottage (q.v.).
