10/35 Grave slab (Shyrte)
approx 5 metres south
of south porch of
Church of All Saints


Grave slab. Mid C17. Sandstone slab with straight incised line borders.
The inscriptions reads:

"Hic iacet Willmi
Shyrte de Cawth
orne lanes qui -
obijt nono Die -
Iunij 1630 natus
anns sexaginta
octo Vicessimo -
Nono Die Ianuacij
Ultimo preterito
WS "

and below:

"Hic iacet Johannes
Shirte junior de Caw
thorne lanes qui obijt
Duodecino die Febr
Anno Domi 1664
Sui no sum
Estis no eritis"

Around the edge are two later inscriptions - "Here lyth interred the body of
John Shirt late of Cawthorne Lanes. He departed this life the 1st day of
September 1737 aged 71 years" and "Sarah daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth
Shirt of Cawthorne Lanes who died 12th of February 1770 aged 19 years".
