Drinking fountain. 1866 at the expense of Miss Frances and Miss Maria
Stanhope. The Viking-style cross decorated with flowing and intertwined
motifs sits on a base of intertwined beaked serpents. The whole sits on a
4-step podium which is cut away to house similarly ornamented water trough.
The shaft of the cross has a partly eroded inscribed panel:

SHALL THIRST AGAIN / BUT WHOSOEVER
DRINKETH / OF THE WATER THAT I SHALL /
GIVE HIM SHALL NEVER / THIRST BUT
THE WATER / THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM /
(SHALL BE IN HIM A WELL / OF WATER
