ST 46 NE BROCKLEY

6/45 Brockley Court

G.V II

Large manor or court house, now home for the elderly. Mid-late C17; altered
C18 and C19. Rendered; slate roof behind coped parapet; ashlar stacks.
T-plan, gabled manor house, with a wing to the north. 2 storeys and attics in
4 steep, coped gables with ball finials. 7 bays: mixture of glazing bar sash
windows in moulded architraves; two cross windows to left; all under continuous
string course on the ground and first floor; in the gables are oval windows in
square surrounds and under dripmoulds. Gabled, projecting porch off-centre to
left; ovolo and ogee moulded outer doorway; sundial above; panelled inner door
with elaborate strap hinges, in a moulded surround. The rear (north) wing has
3 gables; four 2- and 3-light cross windows with reserved chamfers, all under
dripmoulds. Interior. Ground floor room to west has stop-chamfers, all under
dripmoulds. Interior. Ground floor room to west has stop-chamfered beams and
a stone fireplace with an ogee and hollow moulding, panelled frieze of circles and
ovals formerly with affixed plates, moulded mantelshelf. The ground floor right
(east room has moulded raised panels and a fireplace flanked by tall Ionic
pilasters; inset marquetry panel over the fireplace. Ground floor of rear-wing:
panelled room with an elaborately detailed baroque style fireplace. First floor
(right) east room is also panelled with an arcaded screen.
