Country house now private nursing home. Early C19. Ruled stucco, Welsh
slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 : 1: 3-bay entrance front with 1 : 3 :1-bay garden
front on right return. Entrance front: Plinth. Central recess with glazed
double doors in architrave flanked by tall Ionic columns which rise to
1st-floor sill band. Outer bays all have projecting sills to sashes with
glazing bars. 1st floor: band links projecting sills to sashes as ground
floor and carries over entrance columns as a corniced architrave. String
course beneath eaves cornice with blocking course, taller central bay having
pediment. Hipped roof with 3 corniced ridge stacks, similar stacks on taller
transverse ridge to centre of range. Right return: central bays break
forward. French windows to each bay, those of outer bays set in round-arched
recesses. 1st floor as front with pedimented centre having architraved
triangular panel in tympanum. Central ridge and separate hipped roofs over
side bays with stacks as seen from front.

Interior: galleried central stair-hall with Ionic columns and pilasters to
ground floor and superimposed Ionic order over; contemporary fireplace on
right with recessed panels to jambs and frieze. Wooden staircase leading
from left with wrought-iron balustrade to wreathed wooden handrail - matching
balcony balustrade removed (said to be in store); architraved wall panels and
cornices; domed roof light with radial glazing bars. Earlier marble
fireplace in front-right room with coloured inlay and damaged panel on frieze
of shepherd and dog (attributed to Sir Henry Cheere in previous list
description); room to its rear has fine wooden fireplace in Adam style with
trophies on each jamb but its garlanded frieze decoration missing. Former
home of Lord Chetwyn. Additional ranges on left return not of special
interest.
