5th June 1968 No 1 Yorkshire
House. Late C18 with later addition. Red brick in Flemish bond, pantile
roof. 3 storeys, 3 bays with wing to rear left and 2-storey addition in
rear-right angle. Rendered plinth. Central 6-panel door and overlight with
intersecting-tracery glazing bars in wooden doorcase having fluted Doric
pilasters, fluted frieze with oval paterae and dentilled pediment. Outer
bays and 1st floor have projecting stone sills to sashes with glazing bars
beneath rubbed-brick flat arches; the 1st-floor windows have flush wooden
architraves. 2nd floor: later casements in surrounds as 1st floor.
Modillioned eaves to hipped roof with stack to rear. Right return: canted 1-
storey bay window with projecting sill to sashes of 8, 12 and 8 panes beneath
fluted frieze with rosettes and dentilled cornice.
Interior: simple staircase balustrade with turned bottom newel and turned
balusters to ramped handrail. Ground-floor room on left has plain marble
fireplace with iron firebasket.
