SK69SE BAWTRY SOUTH PARADE

Pair of houses now partly commercial premises. Late C18, altered. Red brick
in Flemish bond, Welsh slate and pantile roof. 3 storeys; 3:1:3-bay
symmetrical composition with carriageway to recessed central bay. Brick
plinth, rusticated ashlar quoins. No 10, on left, has central 6-panel door
and overlight with intersecting-tracery glazing bars in architrave, fluted
frieze with paterae beneath dentilled pediment. Flanking sashes with glazing
bars have projecting stone sills and rubbed-brick, cambered arches with
double keystones. 1st-floor windows the same, blind central window. 2nd
floor: 6-pane sashes in matching openings with single keystones, blind
central window. No 8, on right, as No 10 but with later door and large shop
window inserted on its right; upper windows have flush wooden architraves.
Centre bay, forming part of No 8, has panelled double door beneath rusticated
flat arch with keystone; windows above as rest, the 2nd-floor window has
segmental head being set beneath the keyed round arch of the central recess.
Modillioned eaves cornice to hipped roof with rendered stacks flanking the
centre and brick end stacks; roof of No 10 replaced in Welsh slate.
Interior: No 10 has dog-leg staircase with square newels and finely-turned
balusters to ramped handrail. Contemporary fireplaces in front ground-floor
rooms.
