Hall Dovecote)


Dovecote. C17. Banded magnesian limestone rubble and thinly-coursed rubble,
stone slate roof. 2 storeys, single cell; rectangular. East gable: plinth,
irregular quoins; central doorway in bonded ashlar surround; to its left a
square window with cemented ashlar surround; continuous ledge below eaves;
similar square window to gable having shaped kneelers but the gable copings
missing. Octagonal wooden lantern with some pointed casement windows and
upswept leaded roof with wrought-iron finial. Rear: gable retains copings
and has pyramidal and ball finials. Right return: central doorway with round
brick arch.
Interior: ground-floor divided into two cells, probably stable and store;
1st-floor nesting holes in stone and brick. Situated at corner of former
kitchen garden to Loversall Hall (q.v.)
