5/79 Entrance gateway to
Wilsic Hall School.


Entrance gateway. Probably c1750 for Sir Francis Tofield of Wilsic Hall
(date of house q.v.). Coursed, squared magnesian limestone; ashlar copings
and main piers. Main piers linked by S-shaped wing walls to end piers (that
to west end removed). Vain piers: moulded plinths; monolithic, square
shafts; cornices and moulded bases to truncated obelisk finials. Walling has
plain ashlar copings; surviving end pier is square and has domed cap. Forms
principal entrance to Wilsic Hall in Stainton parish.
