Pair of houses and attached railings, now offices. Early C19 with later alterations.
Stucco with painted stone dressings and concrete tile roof. Three storeys plus
basement and attics. 3 bays, each house single bay with shared central bay.
Gothick style. Stone steps to front of each house down to basement well with
central pair of six panel doors flanked by canted bays with sashes with glazing
bars. Wide plain band to top. Railings to front with alternating arrow head and
fleur de lys finials to square bars which continue to either side of steps to
central paired doors. Steps supported by arched bridge over the basement well.
Pointed doorcases have moulded timber architraves and continuous ogee hoodmoulds,
6-panelled doors and plain overlights. To either side two storey canted bays which
continue up from the basement, ground floor with plate glass sashes and first floor
with full-height, pointed plate glass sashes below timber cornice and with
continuous first-floor sill band and bracketed iron balconies to fronts. Large
stepped pointed blind panel to centre first floor. Above tripartite window with
blind central panel and two narrow side sashes flanked by plate glass sashes, all
below returned hoodmoulds. Ground and second floor windows with projecting sills.
Projecting embattled parapets over and mansard roof with three flat-headed dormers,
those. to either side with pointed glazing. Stone coped gables and rendered end
stacks.
