Farmhouse, flanking walls and end pavilions. Early C19 with later alterations.
Red brick with gauged brick dressings and pantile roofs. Two storeys plus attic
and basement, 3 bays with symmetrical elevation. Main front and rear gabled. Main
front has sunken basement windows below cambered heads to outer bays. Ground floor
has central doorcase, door now missing, flanked by empty window openings. First-
floor band and 3 empty window openings above. All openings with flat gauged brick
arches and windows with projecting stone sills. Band at eaves level and lunette
window in the gable with stone sill. Stepped eaves. Roof covering missing.
Similar elevation to rear. Slightly recessed, ten feet high flanking walls are
blind. Gabled, single bay, end pavilions each have a blind recess below flat brick
arch and blocked circular window to the gable. Left pavilion with stone coped open
pediment, right pavilion with damaged gable. Remains of later buildings attached
to rear of walls and pavilions of no special interest. Interior features of house,
now missing. Building empty and derelict at time of resurvey. Bessacarr Grange
was designed as a model farm and resembles the farm patterns published in
T Lightoler's book 'The Gentleman and Farmer's Architect', 1762.'
