Almhouses, now offices. Dated 1837. Coursed, squared, sandstone,
slate roof. Symmetrical, central block flanked by 3-room wings in
single-elongated range. Single storey. Central 3-bay block breaking
forward with C20 part-glazed door in pointed arch moulded stone
surround, flanked by C20 casements in similar surrounds. Band over
inscribed READING ROOM. Central plaque above bearing date and coat
of arms, surmounted by small pointed light. Embattled parapet.
Wings: 3 rooms wide, each room with C20 part-glazed door (now fixed)
and 2-light mullion window, all with chamfered ashlar surrounds.
Plain eaves, end and ridge stacks to each wing.
