No 9 (Mechanics Institute)

GV II

Railings with associated plinth wall, gate-piers and gates. Mid C19.
Coursed sandstone plinth wall; ashlar gate piers, iron railings. Total
length approximately 25 metres; central gate. Wall stone end pier to
right has chamfered plinth and pyramidal cap. Chamfered coping to
plinth wall. Sturdy, hexagonal-section railings with simple finials.
Matching double gate has square monolithic piers with moulded cap.
Left end-pier missing. Included for group value.
