Farmhouse. C16 core, cross-wing C17, main range encased C17 with extensive
later alterations, cross-wing under reconstruction at time of resurvey. Some
internal timber-framing; coursed rubble and dressed sandstone; renewed pantile
and Welsh slate roof. L-shaped plan, cross-wing projecting to front left, later
outshut to rear right of main range with glazed porch in angle. Main range: part-
glazed door to left of centre in flush ashlar surround, to its left a 3-light
casement with projecting sill and deep lintel; similar window to right has
horizontal-sliding sash and the jamb of an original window built into the walling
to its left; a blocked, quoined doorway to far right. 1st floor: to right a
3-light casement with glazing bars in double-chamfered surround with sill cut away.
2 similar casements to left with projecting sills and plain lintels. Truncated
ashlar ridge stack above door and renewed brick end stack to right. Cross-wing:
large quoins, double-chamfered window surrounds. Single-light window to each floor
of front wall; right return has 3-light window (mullions removed) with dripstone;
intact 3-light window to 1st floor with renewed chamfered light to its right.
Hipped roof with rebuilt stack at front eaves. Left return: several original
window surrounds, extension under construction.
Interior: of particular note and partly visible at time of resurvey is the C16
partition wall between main range and cross-wing - upper part of wallpost in
angle of plan with 1st-floor framing of vertical and diagonal studs grooved for
infill; king-post truss with struts parallel to principal rafters, king post not
visible. Continuation of framing visible behind plaster in adjacent bathroom to
rear of cross-wing. Main range: in ground-floor room to left an excellent beamed
ceiling with transverse beam jointed to spine beam,both with half-pyramid stops;
common joists similarly treated. Spine beam extended adjacent to ridge stack
indicating position of smoke hood. Dog-leg staircase. Tie beams of trusses boxed
in, truss adjacent to cross-wing of late king-post form, other trusses not visible.
