3/45 Polygonal garden wall
immediately to north-
east of Langold


Garden wall. Probably mid C18. For Ralph Knight. Coursed rubble limestone
with brick lining to south-facing parts, ashlar copings and door surrounds.
Polygonal with east/west long axis and side walls flared to south to catch the
sun, attached wall encloses garden to rear of Langold Farmhouse (q.v.). Buttresses
against southern side of south wall which has 2 square-headed doorways. Northern
wall has quoined panel with doorway. Right return: basket archway with projecting
quoins and keystone. Probably a remnant of the grand scheme for Langold proposed
by Ralph Knight but left incomplete after his death in 1768.
