Nickerwood Farmhouse


Farmhouse. Probably C16 core encased and outshut added in early C18, altered.
Cement-rendered, stone and brick on right return wall, pantileroof. 2 storeys,
3 bays, continuous outshut to rear, later lean-to on right return (not of special
interest). Doors to left of bays 1 and 2, all windows are C20 3-light casements
with projecting stone sills. Brick end stack to left, ridge stack between bays
2 and 3. Interior: ground-floor room on left has twin spine beams with tongue-
shaped chamfer stops, the rear beam with soffit mortices. Bressumer with doorhead to wall dividing bays 1 and 2. 1st floor: visible from loft over outshut to rear left is the timber-framed side wall of bay 1 having wall posts with quadrant braces. to a mid rail and stud infill. Bay 3 has exposed purlins with straight wind braces. Principal-rafter trusses visible in loft. Extensive amounts of a timber-framed house of 3 bays are likely to be encased within the present shell.
