A timber framed hall house encased and largely rebuilt in coursed gritstone in
1627. Alterations to west wing in the early C18 and subsequent modifications to the
hall range and west front in the C19. Stone slate roofs, C18 and C19 corniced
chimneys. The south front of the hall range retains a chamfered mullioned-transomed
window of 5 lights with small old leaded panes. C19 semi-dormers above. The
adjacent gabled elevation of the west wing has a similar mullioned-transomed ground
floor window, reglazed, and on the first floor 3 early C18 tall mullion and transom
2 light windows, again with small leaded panes, capped by small cornices. In the
gable is an elongated upright oval window with relating leaded panes and drip
mould over. The west front has been remodelled and 2 of the 5 mullioned and
transomed windows have been remullioned and all have been reglazed. Doorway with
cornice hood. The north front has a large mullioned-transomed window lighting the
staircase. Doorway with date panel inscribed "TW over Anno Doi above date 1627".
Interior has stop chamfered ceiling beams; C17/C18 panelling in west ground floor
room and chamfered jamb fireplace with massive, shaped lintel. South-east ground
floor room has reset C17 panelling with fine patterned frieze. Reset 1682 fireplace.
Good late C18 staircase with turned balusters. First floor south-west corner
bedroom has chamfered jamb centred arched fireplace. Exposed wall post of head of
staircase. King post roof trusses and studding of one original gable end now
