Cote Farmhouse, former farmhouse

(now outbuilding) and barn
SE 1638 16/430

II

2.
Farmstead of late C17 origin altered and extended late C18 and early C19. The
original farmhouse is now used as outbuilding. Two-storeys, sandstone "bricks" and
coursed gritstone. The earliest part appears to be the west wing which has a
2 light former 5 light chamfered mullion window on first floor, square mullions on
ground floor; coped gable ends to stone slate roof with kneelers. The east-west
range, including barn, has 2 and 3 light square mullion windows, squared jamb plain
doorways; stone slate roof. The present farmhouse forms the east wing, late C18
with flush quoins and 3 light square mullion windows in flush squared frames. An
interesting example of the growth of a traditional farmstead.
