Formerly known as High Fernley Hall. An unusually symmetrical elevation for the
date: 1698. The hall was also built by the Richardsons of Bierley. Two storeys
coursed sandstone coped parapet front. Stone slate roof with flanking chimneys and
coped gable ends. The first floor has 2 pairs of sash windows under common drip
moulds, probably multi-light mullioned windows originally. The left hand of ground
floor retains a large chamfered mullioned window of 9 transomed lights under drip
mould; paired windows similar to those on first floor to right. Central entrance
with bullseye window over and diamond panel sundial. The doorway has moulded jambs
and imposts, semi-circular head with keystone and small cornice on consoles and
frieze inscribed W R: M R 1698. The interior altered C19 and C20.
