Victoria Bridge
- II
Road bridge. Dated 1864. Contractors P Berry and Son, Sowerby Bridge. For
Major R Stansfield of Fieldhouse (q.v). Stone and cast iron. 2-span bridge
with central stone pier cut to a triangular face on west side and rounded on
east side. Causeway base has sunk panels with raised pattern. Flanking cause-
way, are square end and central piers with pyramidal caps, the centrel piers
having floral-decorated bases and carrying plaques with the bridge's name,
contractor and patron. Between piers are railings of crossed diagonal, vertical
and horizontal struts with a patera to centre of each cross. The open iron-work
construction was designed to allow flood water to pass through. Sowerby Bridge
