Cinema. c.1930, by A. E. Shennan. On rounded corner with
Elliot Street. Faced in Portland stone. 3-storey height.
Vertical metal windows grouped in twos and threes both
horizontally and vertically and set in panels. The main
group over the entrance on the corner has pilaster motifs
between the window and is surmounted by a panel with echelon
motifs between the window and is surmounted by a panel with
echelon motifs at the upper corners, above which is plinth
for flagstaff breaking otherwise continuous parapet. The
entrance has been remodelled in mosaic c.1970, losing the
canopy. The auditorium has splay sides and gallery with
concave front. Square proscenium arch within another with
large vertical flutes between and geometricised floral band
round inner one. Each side is very tall niche with fountain
motif on interior cupolas. Geometricised rosette in centre
of main, flat ceiling and quasi-pilasters to wall panelling.
Rear recess with oval saucer dome. Listed for the interior.
