1910 by Niven and Wigglesworth for F G J Eckstein, encasing an earlier house and
adding side wings. Some dimensions and masonry remain but nothing visible either
inside or out. Built by Trollope and Colls. Stone with slated mansards, stone
stacks. Five bay centre of three storeys and dormers, wings half a storey lower.
Heavy Palladian style. Porte-cochere to low entrance leading to marble-lined
lobby from which stairs rise to piano nobile, and the very grand hall or saloon
with bowed end to garden terrace and inner screen of Ionic scagliola columns.

Handsome carved stone fireplace. Two other noteworthy rooms are the library,
panelled throughout in walnut and the lounge which has Ionic screened alcove and
ends and some bold Dutch baroque carved decoration. Ceiling plaster moulded in
keeping. Doors and door furniture of fine quality and craftsmanship throughout.
