House, early C19 with early C18 core. 2 and 3 storey ranges. Colour-washed
brick. Slated roofs hipped at apsidal ends; oversailing eaves with slender
paired modillions. Windows with flat arches of gauged red brickwork; small
pane early C19 sashes. Early C20 panelled entrance door. The north and central
blocks of the house form the greatly remodelled C18 core; the south wing added
early C19. Sections of C18 and C19 screen walling linked to the east and north
sides of the house. This house was occupied by John Hervey, 1st Earl of Bristol
and by his family until the completion of Ickworth House, c.1830.
