The Rectory
II
1787 red brick detached house built for Rev J E Martin as private house. Rectory from
late C19. Three-storey. Plain tile roofs. Entrance front 3 window range with two
2-storey 3-sided bays with exposed box glazing bar sashes. Above, semi-circular
lunettes in 3 lights. Modillion eaves cornice. Central 6 panel front door with
radiating bar fanlight. Fine doorcase with open pediment on console brackets.
Windows above in eared architraves with stucco voussoirs and keys, ornamented with a
sunflower at 1st floor.

To rear two 3-storey 3-sided bays appear to be later addition. Central door with flat
hood. Windows above in eared architraves. Modillion eaves cornice. Single-storey
additions in matching style to south. On south wall plaque 'Ralph Sheward. Builder.
1787'.
