Barn and attached cowhouse. Early C18 barn with addition of 1755, cowhouse
range late C18 and C19 of different builds all with later C19 alterations.
Rubblestone and timber-framed with weatherboard cladding, Welsh slate roofs.
L-shaped plan barn forming east-west range and cowhouse the north-south range.
Barn : 5 bays, the west bay added, with single aisle, on north side.
Rubblestone plinth and west end wall which has brick-dressed slit vents and
weatherboard gable. Central opposing cart-entries with double board doors,
that on north side in gabled midstrey; opposing stable doors at west end and
another at east end on north side. Small door to east end wall. Roof hipped
at east end. Interior: frame survives well, of large scantling timbers,
including sole plate, mid rail, and wall plate with angle braces from posts;
jowelled posts braced to the tie beams (some braces curved); queen strut roof
trusses with clasped through purlins, coupled rafters, no ridge-piece, later
additional rafters. Mortices in posts and soffit of tie beam of west truss
indicate position of former end wall; the added bay beyond has wall-plate
inscribed "I.R. Fecit 1755". Stalls in west end. Cowhouse range: built up
from south (barn) end. 4 bays with side outshut at north end and aisle on
east side. Rubblestone plinth with brick dressings. Side outshut has doorway
on left; bay 1 former cowhouse, has board stable door on right to through
passage; bay 2 has wide board door to through passage; bays 3 and 4
open-fronted with post between them on brick plinth and straight-braced to
wall plate; roof--half-hipped at left end. Interior: bay 1 has cobble floor to
through-passage and stalls for 6 cows with wood partitions, mangers with
tethering rings and feeding rack; bay 2 through-passage has weatherboard
partition walls, with board door into bay 1; bays 3 and 4 have continuous
wood manger on north and east sides and 2 queen strut trusses.

In state of disrepair at time of inspection. The C19 cowhouse fittings are a
rare survival.
