949-1/4/55 Wallness Bridge

Bridge. Dated 1880. Ashlar, cast-iron and wrought-iron or
steel. Iron work cast by George Smith and Co, Glasgow. Red
sandstone ashlar abutments with white ashlar moulded cornice
and caps to terminal piers. The piers have enriched frieze
with acanthus decoration and carry insignia of Salford
Corporation and the date in low relief panels. Cast-iron
balustraded parapet with stone sill and coping between aspired
outer piers, then braced lattice work trusses (wrought-iron or
steel) over main span ornamented with rosettes over the rivets
on the inner face. Massively detailed and scaled throughout.
