Terraced houses. Mid C19. Stucco. Roof obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and attic over basement. 3 windows each.
The elevation of each treated as a full-height and nearly
full-width canted bay. Stairs up to a segmental-arched entry
with overlight. This entry is set in the right segment of the
canted bay. Nos 86-89 have original doorframes with
sidelights, framed by Tuscan pilasters and entablature in
wood. The doorframe and ground-floor bay windows have an
architrave which is interrupted by a continuous entablature
which ties together all the ground-floor elements. The
ground-floor windows have projecting sills, each supported by
a pair of console brackets, and pelmeted heads, those to Nos
87-89 cut in an elaborate scroll pattern. The first-floor
windows have eared architraves and open out onto a verandah
which runs the entire length of the row. The verandah is
supported by cast-iron brackets and by chamfered wall piers
which project from the party walls. The verandah has cast-iron
railings; colonnettes support a concave metal roof with wooden
valance boards. Sill band to second-floor windows, which have
shouldered architraves topped by segmental pediments.
Third-floor windows are segmental arched with eared and
shouldered architraves. Round-arched attic windows, continuous
architraves interrupted by impost blocks and keystone; they
are tied together by a sill band, which is interrupted by
windows in Nos 85, 87 and 88. Right return facade of No.89
faces Royal Crescent. It is of one-window range. Sill bands to
second and attic floors; windows repeat arrangements on main
elevation, except for first floor which has shouldered
architraves interrupted by quoins and keystone. Stacks to
party and end walls. Each ground floor window has a cast-iron
window guard.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Rails to stairs and areas.
Nos 68, 69, and 73-89 Marine Parade (qv) form a group with Nos
1-14 Royal Crescent (qv).
