Farmhouse. Circa early to mid C17 extended in circa mid C19. Stone rubble. Regular
slate roof with gable ends. Brick shafts to end stacks.
Plan: Original plan uncertain. The early range is of 2-room and probably through
passage plan heated by end stacks. In the circa mid C19, the rear wall was partly
demolished and a service range containing kitchen, dairy and scullery was added
across the rear to form a double depth plan. A stair was inserted on the right hand
side of the passage, the left hand side wall was partly rebuilt and the eaves were
raised. In the late C19 an outshut was added on the left hand gable end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window front. Central 4-centred
chamfered granite arch with pyramid stops. C17 studded door of double construction;
vertical planks on the exterior and horizontally planked on the interior. C19
tripartite sash to left with dressed stone flat arch and C17 3-light mullion window
to right with hoodmould and casements, the glazing bars removed. First floor has a
mid C19 tripartite sash on ground floor with C17 3-light mullion window in centre
and to right. The right hand side wall has a C17 2-light mullion window towards the
front end and reset C17 2-light mullion window towards the rear. On the rear
elevation are C19 sashes with dressed stone flat arches to the ground floor
openings.
Interior: Wide passage, the draw bar to the C17 door still intact. Much of the
interior was altered in the C19 when the stair and back stair were inserted and most
of the doors were replaced; there are two C18 2-panel doors still remaining. The
fireplaces to the ground floor rooms have C20 grates, the fireplace in the front
left hand room flanked by C19 china cupboards. The ceilings are plastered. It is
possible that several of the earlier C17 features still survive but have been
covered over.
