Early/mid C19. A long red brick house standing in prominent position next
to Belper Bridge. Slate roof. Two storeys 4 windows, sashes with cambered
head linings. Slightly lower part to north end. This building was formerly
The Cottage Hospital (OS 1879 and Bulmer 1895). It was supported by the Strutts
and afforded either indoor or outdoor relief to the aged and sick of Belper,
in the charge of a sister from the Convent of St Laurence.
