Pair semi-detached cottages. Dated 1822 on central stone at first
floor. Rendered, asbestos-cement slate roof. Single-room plan to
each cottage, with service rooms flanking rear yard. Two storeys, 1
+ 1 windows; symmetrical, handed pair with small 2-light glazing-bar
casements. Central doors, No 38 has 4-pane C19 flush, and No 38A has
C20 part-glazed, raised on steps which die, left, into steep hill
slope. Mid-level plain string; blind opening above doors contains
datestone with some lettering, not legible. Return gables plain, both
with square stacks raised in brick. Interior includes early C19 plank
doors, ceilings with plain joists set on edge and quarter-turn
staircase to corner of each main room. A modest pair of cottages, but
practically unaltered, and characteristic of the era for a suburban
location; the rear service rooms have been altered in the later C19.
