The Pound House

GV II

Outbuilding in Old Traine (qv), now dwelling. Remnants of C16, C17 and later
modifications. Rubble, granite dressings, slate roofs. An L-plan block with
open throughway giving access from the east side to the courtyard in front of
Old Traine and The Gatehouse (qv). Upper block, parallel with frontage of Old
Traine has garage doors, and small opening to right, above. Half-hipped outer
end. At right angles is principal block with throughway to large west-facing
segmental chamfered arch; to left of arch, at first floor is a C16 2-light
window with pointed heads and spandrels under a stopped drip. Above arch a
single light with broad wood jambs, to right a stable door to stone voussoirs
and a 2-light casement with heavy granite mullion and lintel; above a further
single square light. Roof steps up to right, part of adjoining Gatehouse. The
east front has, to right, segmental voussoired arch to throughway under a small
single light, and to left a small light and entrance door under segmental head.
