Listing Text

Presumably circa 1822 (ie contemporary with kitchen garden).
Tall battered square chimney built to west of kitchen garden
and above smoke duct leading from latter. Built of stugged ashlar
with shallow base; iron collar below cope. Small duct house
alongside (to east) now derelict. Vaulted smoke-duct survives
below ground.

Built to keep smoke and soot away from the kitchen garden.
Another chimney was built to the north of Drumlanrig House,
or similar reasons, but it has been demolished.
