LODGE: circa 1800. Single storey, 3-bay gate lodge; modern harl, contrasting painted ashlar margins. Centre entrance with small flanking windows; 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Margined end stacks; flat skews with run-off skewputts; steeply pitched slate roof with stone ridge. Later rear extension with roof pitch to rear adjusted to embrace.
GATEPIERS: late 18th century square ashlar gatepiers with each with narrow pulvinated string course, deep cornice and stepped cap. No original gates survive.
QUADRANT WALLS: coped rubble walls enclose site and abut gate lodge and gatepiers, both set well back from road.
Notes:
Presumably the gatepiers were originally topped by carved stone eagles, a usual decoration to enhance entrances. The drive (no longer in use as such) leads to Bridge of Alvah and forms part of the network of private roads within the Duff House estate.
