Listing Text

Built 1897 for the Highland Railway as part of their direct line to Inverness. A 2-platform through station, with the principal
building on the down platform.
PRINCIPAL BUILDING: single-storey wood and brick structure.
On the platform side the central section is set back from an awning supported on cast-iron columns and wooden brackets. NW end pavilion was altered c1950 by the insertion of a signal cabin in similar style to the original. S-end pavilion has a slate-roofed canted-bay
window. Road side has the end pavilions slightly advanced, with gables. Windows irregularly spaced, three panes high with top hopper opening. Roof slated with open eaves and prominent rafter ends.
Louvred ventilators in upper parts of rear gables. Chimney stacks red and white brick, with stone copes: centre stack still has octagonal cans. Stack at NW end rises from exposed brick chimney breast.
PLATFORM SHELTER ETC small single-pitch roofed platform shelter on up side and store building in similar style on down platform.
FOOTBRIDGE: Steel and cast-iron lattice-girder footbridge of standard Highland Railway type.

Notes:
The largest of a type of wooden station building built by the Highland Railway in the 1890s.
