St Asaph

History

A bridge built in 1630 across the River Clwyd. The watercourse was altered and this bridge left dry when the A55 was constructed. It now appears to be in use only as a field access.

Exterior

A bridge in local limestone axe-dressed masonry with a single arch of about 10 m span and segmental form. The faces of the bridge are corbelled about 100 mm out from the voussoirs. The parapets are low, about 600 mm in height, but there is no parapet coping. The original paving of the carriageway, about 2.5 m wide, survives, formed of large cobblestones.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as a surviving County bridge complete with original paving in excellent condition.
