Landing Stage At South East
End of Viginia Water

II
3/127

G.V.

Roman remains reset to form a landing stage. These consist of fragments from the Roman
city of Leptis Magna (now in Libya) reset by Sir Jeffery Wyatville after 1827. This consists
of a series of stone fragements re-formed into 4 square piers each having a very elaborate
and florid human mask on the side facing the lake. Between the 2 end piers are cement steps
leading to the water and a plain lower section of cement blocks connects the 2 centre piers.
Included for some good Roman fragments and group value with the Temple of Augustus.
