Almshouse row. Circa 1912 by Sir Aston Webb. Red brick with wooden cornice to plain
tiled roofs, hidden behind parapets of window projections. 3 tall banded brick stacks
at left and right ends and off ridge stack to front left. That to left is stepped.
Single storey. 3 projections, one at each end and one to left of centre, with 1
tripartite glazing bar sash in each and quasi pilaster brick mouldings flanking .
The right hand projection has a gable with small opening. Between the projections
the eaves drop down over the entrance verandahs, that to right, wider, with central
twisted brick pier. Each verandah has a double casement behind and contains a boarded
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
