1/11 North Hall Cottage

II

House. C16 and early C17. One-and-a-half storeys; now a 3-cell lobby-entrance
form, but to the west of the stack the frame appears older, with a slightly
lower level to the ridge of the roof, and may have been a 2-cell end chimney
house originally. Timber-framed, colour-washed over old roughcast.
Plaintiles. An internal chimney-stack with 4 attached hexagonal shafts on a
square base. C20 standard casement windows to ground storey; one small C19
casement window immediately below the eaves, and one gabled dormer. An
exposed ceiling in one ground storey room with a multiple roll-moulding to the
main beam and a single roll-moulding to the joists. To the east of the stack,
the 2-bay ground storey room has a main beam with ovolo-moulding and complex
scroll stops with a miniature cresting decoration with jewel and quirk.
