TM 16 NW
3/103 Model Cottage
-

-- II
House. Early C16. Renovated 1980's. Timber framed and rendered, thatched
roof. 2-cell, end chimney form. 1½ storeys. Casement windows of 1980's.
Boarded door into cross-entry. 2 gabled dormers with wide bargeboards and
spike finials. Stack at left gable end entirely rebuilt 1980's. Old oak
corbels below wallplate ends on right. Interior. Widely-spaced studding,
some on lower floor removed; reverse-curved braces at service end. Evidence
for diamond-mullioned windows, one on upper floor intact. Heavy plain ceiling
joists; mutilated bridging beam in hall. Original trimming for stair at
service end; this stair, with solid treads, was removed in 1980's. Narrow end
bay has smoke-blackened timbers on upper floor, suggesting an original smoke
bay or smoke hood above the hearth. Central closed truss over hall chamber,
the tie beam cambered. Coupled-rafter roof.
