Quadrangular red brick almshouses originally built by Sir William Cordell
(builder of Melford Hall) in 1573, but largely restored in 1847. It was
for 12 poor men, 2 women and a warden. The south range of the quadrangle,
with the main front facing south is of 2 storeys with embattled parapet
and gabled cross wings at the east and west ends extending to the south,
with stone quoins and capping. The windows are 1, 2 and 3-light stone
dressed mullioned windows with segmental heads and lattice leaded lights.
There is a central oriel of 4-lights on the lst storey and 4-light bays
on the cross wings, ground storey. Roof tiled, with a central ogee domed
bell turret with a weathervane on the south side and ranges of external
chimney stacks on the east, north and west sides, with square shafts set
diagonally.
