SU 95NW BOROUGH OF WOKING BROOKWOOD CEMETERY

4/9 American Military Chapel

GV II

Chapel 1925, possibly by Egerton Swartwhent in a Greek Revival style. Stone
c25 foot square, centralized plan. Portico of 4 fluted Doric columns up a
flight of five steps to the front. Frieze inscription: "Perpetual light upon
them shines". Centre block rising up behind with ribbon and garland decorative
band; geometric pattern frieze above, pyramidal roof. 8 panel paired bronze
doors in architrave surrounds behind the portico; bronze eagle in the transome
light above. Return fronts have 2 half Doric columns with scroll frieze and
stained glass windows between.

Interior: Handkerchief vault on marble columns to corners, 2 Doric columns to
each side. Walls have bronze rolls of honour, mosaic behind altar.
