Accommodation bridge. Circa 1838, possibly by Benjamin Green for the Newcastle
and Carlisle Railway Company. Dressed tooled-and-margined sandstone.
Castellated style. Segmental archway with rusticated voussoirs and embattled
parapet above string. Sunk blank panel in higher central merlon of parapet.
Tall, narrow octagonal-plan towers flanking arch have embattled turrets above
string. Flanking quadrant-plan retaining walls have flat coping and are ramped
down to 3-stage, octagonal-plan end piers. Indentical rear elevation. The
east drive to Blenkinsopp Hall passes through the bridge under the railway
embankment.
