Description

SP42NE
5/282

NORTH ASTON
THE GREEN
(South side)
No 1 Magnolia Cottages and Nos 2 and 3 Greenside Cottages

II

House and 2 (or possibly originally 4) cottages. C17 and early C18, extended C20.
Limestone rubble with wooden lintels; thatch and plain-tile roofs with brick stacks.
2-unit plans. 2 storeys plus attic and 1 storey plus attic. Entrance front of
earlier taller range is largely obscured by a tiled outshut, but principal front,
to rear, has a 3-window arrangement of casements plus an eyebrow dormer; steep-
pitched roof has a central stone-based clustered stack. Lower range (Nos 2 and
3) has 2 entrances and 6 ground-floor windows, one a canted bay window and all with
renewed casements; roof has a small gabled dormer and has stacks at both ends and
in the centre. Rear has further casements and 2 dormers. Interiors not inspected.
Earlier section was probably a 2-unit lobby-entry house, but has been sub-divided
and partly combined with No 2. C20 extensions to No 1 are not of special architect-
ural interest.
