Description

WEST FELTON C.P. TWYFORD ROAD (west side)
SJ 32 NW
7/88 Arch-way in wall approx.
40m east of The Nursery
30.4.86
II
Arch-way. Probably mid-C19 reusing some C13 masonry. Sandstone ashlar.
Wide pointed chamfered arch with hoodmould. 4 orders of shafts with plain
moulded capitals and plinths repeated to either side of the archway.
The west face is more weathered while the carving on the east face is crisper
and may in fact be an imitation executed when the arch-way was re-erected
here in the mid-C19. The original provenance of the arch-way is not known.
The Nursery is not included in this list.
