2/2 Saplins Cottage
II
Cottage. Probably mid-C17, extended late C17, with later additions and
alterations, principally of late C20. Timber framed with plaster and
painted brick infill, machine tile roof. Original 2-cell plan with
integral end stack to right and slightly later catslide outshut to rear,
altered late C20 by addition of brick extension to right. One storey
and attic; framing: square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate, short
straight tension brace and v-struts from collar to left gable end; one
3-light late C19 casement to left of original house with late C20
flat-roofed eaves dormer to right; C20 addition (painted black and white
in imitation of timber frame) has one contemporary casement to right;
entrance through boarded door immediately to left of ridge (formerly
end) stack. Timber framed outshut partly re-built in early C20 brick.
Interior: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
